KAY MATHIS: At
the age of 44 on July 8th 2002, I was the victim of a Brain
Stem Stroke that changed my life drastically. Up until my stroke
I worked as an R.N. at Claiborne Home Health, mostly with the elderly and
truly loved my job. I enjoyed helping people to receive a better
quality of life. The day of my stroke I lost all movement, talking,
swallowing, I could understand and see/hear people come and go, but could not respond.
The doctors did not think I would make it, but the good Lord
gave me the strength. I went to rehab two weeks later, still
not able to do much but groan and make noises. After 6 months of extensive
therapy, I was able to talk, eat and walked out of rehab with a brace on my right leg and the use of a cane. The Doctors did not expect
this. After being home for awhile, I started
researching different types of therapy to help me get back to myself or at least
as close to i could. I found a lot of good results on reading about Hyperbaric
Oxygen Therapy and wanted to try it. My problem was it was not offered in
Louisiana. I called a lot of places in different states, but because I
could not afford it I could not receive the therapy. After about 4 months of
researching and trying to find a place I
found a place in Cumming, Georgia at a HBOT Center that agree d
to help me. Me
and a dear friend went there and stayed for 15 days while I received the
treatments. The treatments were great, after the 2nd treatment I started having
more energy and felt better
than ever. I have always at night since my stroke had cramps
and muscle spasms in my legs really bad, my right hand would draw up into a
fist. After the 4th treatment I did not take any muscle relaxers or sleeping
pills at night anymore, had no cramps or spasms and my hand was not closing up
at all. Also after my 4th treatment I felt my toes on my right foot start
moving, something they had not been doing. The next day after my 6th treatment I
told my friend about the movement in my toes
and got her to take me to the shoe store to purchase a pair of shoes. I
walked out of the shoe store
without wearing the brace, boy did that feel great! The treatments have given me more energy and hope, than
anything I ever thought possible. I feel that
it was our good Lord above that
made this experience happen for me and pray that one day that I will be able to
get a chamber of my own. So I will be able to continue getting better and have a
better quality of life. I would recommend anyone that could
get these treatments to do so. GOD
