Dearest
Friends at the Hyperbaric Center, I want to thank
you so very much for all your help and kindness during our visits there over the
last few months. I have never before witnessed a group of more caring people when it comes to helping my grandson and other autistic
children. It is with deep sadness
that we will have to depart from the center for now-at the end of this year
became we are moving back to Joshua has benefited greatly from the
therapy. It has not been an overnight change, but a very gradual one and I am
noticing the change every day. His reading and comprehension have
improved in school and his behavior has definitely calmed down in all
aspects of his life. This has been the most obvious benefit from his therapy
-his ability to cope with the everyday frustrations that
result from autism and his ability to communicate with others in
a more meaningful fashion.. If there is any way I can help you all in the
future, please let me know. We will be in touch with you and I will keep you
informed regarding Joshua's further improvements.. Thank
you again for being there for us and for coming into our lives With
sincerest regards for a bright future for all of you, FLIPSIDE It was a calendar of seasons realized that
left us without illusions. Joshua wouldn't be fine. We back-spaced through time
to piece together the ragged photos of his primal years, inexplicable to those who haven't traveled there. At three, his speech simply echoes of echoes. Words dangled like dust in the air of no meaning. So he went inward like a tortoise, nobody could read him. But anger stalked, abruptly as whiplash. He whacked toys,
windows, head-banged into walls. This side of autism, rooted in repetition like
the cookie moon, he ate the same food, watched the same video, drew the same
circle.. No one escaped. Maurine
Meleck (Beloved
grandmother to Joshua) Grandchildren My munchkins, my puppies, my
television addicts, helpless inside your videos like butterflies
under glass. Your mother has left you by a blue field of red rabbits. She
is too busy with that beehive of an internet sucking
out her own fable of love and loss. The screen buzzes and cackles in
its cage, my little pretties, but don't be afraid. Someday
I will come on my winged bicycle and carry you off— two
Totos in a basket. Maurine
